I'm a visual person so I like to dream up new ways to visualize baseball statistics. The boxscore just doesn't do it for me. Year's ago when I found a copy of Baseball's Pennant Races: A Graphical View by John Warner Davenport I was intrigued to do this on a website. Thus pennant-race.com was born in 2005.

Pennant Race Graphs

The main Pennant Race graphs show each team's record over time, charting their win-loss difference by date. You can see the entire Major League Baseball season at a glance. It’s far more engaging than other baseball statistic sites that only offer simple tables of standings. Plotting the stats reveals how easily you can track your favorite team's rise---or fall.

For those interested in baseball history, you can use our custom graph to build your own chart comparing different years.

Here are some tips for using the charts.

The Standings

I've converted the normal standings look so that you can better see the gaps and comparison between divisions. The arrows show if a team’s been heating up or cooling off in their last ten games.

Games

The normal scoreboard line scores are so boring and hard to read. This new scoreboard display gets the point across with one graphic. The games are sorted by a special rating with more exciting games at the top. Click the link for the top 10 games by rating for the year.

Click on any game and you'll get detailed charts of the game play-by-play. This is what I call a graphical line score. Click on a batter in the lineup and see their hitting history.

Usage

You are free to use copies of the graphics in any situation. The only thing we ask is you provide a link back to pennant-race.com.

Historical information used here was obtained free of charge from Retrosheet and is copyrighted by them.
