The Kansas City Royals have reinstated pitcher Gil Meche and infielder Josh Fields from the 60-day disabled list. The Royals also said Wednesday they've called up catcher Lucas May from Omaha. Pitcher Luke Hochevar and outfielder David DeJesus were moved to the 60-day DL to make room on the 40-man roster.

The NL East-leading Atlanta Braves have put touted prospect Freddie Freeman in the starting lineup for his major league debut. Freeman was among the players called up Wednesday, when teams can expand their rosters for the final month of the regular season. Willie Bloomquist gambled twice on the base paths in the ninth inning and it paid off. Bloomquist stole third with one out and scored on an Alexi Ogando wild pitch with two outs in the ninth to help the Kansas City Royals beat the Texas Rangers 10-9 Tuesday night. Rangers acquire OF Francoeur from Mets (AP)
The first-place Texas Rangers acquired outfielder Jeff Francoeur for their playoff push Tuesday night, just hours before the deadline for players to be eligible for the postseason roster. The New York Mets traded Francoeur and cash to Texas for infielder Joaquin Arias, who was designated for assignment last week when Alex Cora was called up by the Rangers.
