Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Armando Galarraga and catcher Alex Avila got in a heated argument after the first inning of Sunday's game against the Chicago White Sox. Galarraga and Avila exchanged words after Galarraga pitched scoreless first inning. The verbal altercation escalated enough that they had to be separated.

Reds' Votto ejected in 1st-inning at-bat (AP)
Reds first baseman Joey Votto was ejected by plate umpire D.J. Reyburn after disagreeing with a called strike in the first inning Sunday, his fourth ejection in the past two seasons. Votto, the NL's top hitter at .322, took a called strike to run the count to 1-2 with two outs. Votto said something as he backed away from the batter's box.

Braves rookie Jason Heyward has a swollen right knee and is not starting against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The right fielder hurt his knee while making a diving catch in Houston this week. Minnesota Twins manager Ron Gardenhire wanted to give left fielder Delmon Young a breather. So on Sunday, Gardenhire put together a lineup that didn't feature Young for the first time since June 11. If Young doesn't come off the bench in Sunday's game against Oakland, it would be the first time he has had a full day off since May 27.

O's RHP Berken to get MRI on shoulder (AP)
Baltimore reliever Jason Berken will get an MRI on his right shoulder. Orioles manager Buck Showalter says the right-hander will have the test Monday. Berken is 3-3 with a 3.03 ERA in 41 appearances after being converted from a starter to the bullpen this season. But he has allowed 13 earned runs in 17 1-3 innings over his last 14 outings.
